Dr. Irmgard Tackie: Comprehensive, Patient-Centered Care for Children and Families

Dr. Irmgard Tackie believes families should feel comfortable turning to their pediatrician for the full spectrum of their children’s healthcare needs, regardless of the day of the week or time of day. That commitment to accessible, comprehensive, and personalized care was one of the reasons she joined Mayflower Medical Group’s West Covina location in January 2026.

At the heart of Dr. Tackie’s approach is a simple philosophy: every patient deserves to be known, heard, and treated as an individual. She takes the time to develop meaningful relationships with her patients and their families, allowing her to understand not only a child’s immediate medical needs, but also the broader circumstances that may affect their health and well-being.

Dr. Tackie brings to Mayflower a clear vision for pediatric care and extensive experience in building a practice around that philosophy. Before joining Mayflower Medical Group, she practiced in a multispecialty group with locations throughout San Bernardino and Riverside counties. As one of four pediatricians in the organization, she often found herself working in an environment where the emphasis was placed heavily on volume and the number of patients seen each day. With limited time to spend with individual families, she felt there was too little opportunity to truly understand her patients or provide the level of care she believed they deserved.

That experience strengthened her commitment to a different model—one centered on quality, continuity, education, and accessibility.

Addressing the Whole Child – Mental Health and ADHD

Dr. Tackie has also pursued additional training in pediatric behavioral health through a mini-fellowship focused on mental health care in primary care settings. This specialized training enables her to identify, diagnose, and treat common behavioral and mental health concerns—including ADHD, anxiety, and depression—within her own practice.

By incorporating behavioral health services into pediatric primary care, Dr. Tackie can provide families with more timely support and help reduce the long waits that can accompany referrals to outside mental health providers.

Meeting the Needs of Families

Education and partnership are fundamental to Dr. Tackie’s approach. She believes parents should have the knowledge and confidence to understand what is normal for their children and recognize when additional medical attention may be necessary.

“I believe in teaching the parent what is normal and what is not.”

Her goal is to provide families with a trusted medical resource who knows their child and understands their medical history. She encourages parents to contact her first when concerns arise, helping families navigate their options and avoid unnecessary emergency room visits or other forms of care that may not be appropriate for their child’s needs.

When she identifies situations in which a family has sought emergency care unnecessarily, Dr. Tackie views it as an opportunity, not for criticism, but for education. She takes the time to speak with families about appropriate healthcare resources and help them understand when and where to seek care.

For Dr. Tackie, pediatric medicine is about more than treating illness. It is about building lasting relationships with families, empowering parents through education, and providing children with thoughtful, comprehensive care throughout every stage of childhood.
